1. BACKUP YOUR ANDROID DATA

2. ENABLE USB DEBUGGING MODE
Now you need to enable USB debugging mode. Without enabling USB debugging mode on your device you can’t start the root, Custom ROM or Unlock process.
3. CHARGE YOU ANDROID
If your device switched off during this process, it could damage or brick the device. Make sure that your Android battery is full charge or near about 50-70% battery level.

UPDATE Mi4 WITH CM 12
Step 1. Download the CWM recovery for the MI 4 here and move the zip file on your phone internal storage.
Step 2. After this Go to Setting>Updater or Open Updater App from home screen.
Step 3 From here Press menu button and then “Select update package”
Step 4. Select the recovery zip and install it. Reboot device
Step 5. Now the CWM recovery is installed on your phone.
Step 6. Download the CM 12 ROM here
Step 7. You need a Gapps Package also to use the Google apps on your phone. GAPPS for Android 5.0 Lollipop can be downloaded from this link.
Step 8. Connect your Xiaomi Mi4 to your computer using the USB cable. Now transfer the above two files to the internal storage on your device.
Step 9. Now boot into recovery mode.
Step 10. In recovery, tap on the ‘wipe data factory reset’ option to perform a factory reset.
Step 11. After this tap on the advanced options and wipe the cache, dalvik cache, data and system partitions as well.
Step 12. Now tap on ‘install zip from sd card’ option and choose the ROM ZIP file that you transferred to the internal storage of your Xiaomi Mi4. Flash the file to install the ROM on your device.
Step 13. Once the ROM has been flashed successfully, flash the GAPPS package as well.
Step 14. After this reboot your phone.
That’s it. You should now have the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Unofficial CM 12 custom ROM installed on your Xiaomi Mi4. The first boot is likely to take around five minutes
