How to Update Nexus 5 to Android 4.4.1 KOT49E KitKat OTA Official Firmware
Android 4.4.1 KOT49E KitKat OTA Official Firmware is now live for the Nexus 5 users. In this guide we’ll show you how you can update your device to the new official updated firmware. This tutorial is only for Nexus 5, Your device needs to be on Android 4.4 KRT16M. To check the firmware go to your phone Settings > About Phone and check the Build Number. Do not proceed if you don’t have Android 4.4 KRT16M installed. The below mention guide is for Rooted and Non-Rooted Nexus 5 users. Follow all the below mention steps one by one on your device to install the official update.

c) Make sure that your Nexus 5 battery is full charge or near about 60-70% battery level.
d) Download the Latest Nexus 5 drivers on your PC and install it to start the update process. You need these drivers to connect your device with the computer to follow this guide.

Install Android 4.4.1 KOT49E OTA on Nexus 5 [For Non-ROOTED]
Step 1. Download the Nexus 5 Android 4.4.1 KOT49E KitKat OTA Official Firmware here. Save the file on your desktop and rename it to update.zip
Step 2. Now connect your phone to the PC with USB cable and move the rename zip file update.zip to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the root folder.
Step 3. Switch off your Nexus 5 and Boot it in Bootloader mode. To do this Press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons till you see the Fastboot menu and START on top.
Step 4. Follow the navigation instructions on the screen. Press Volume Up button several times till you see RECOVERY and press Power button to select it. You will get an exclamation mark now. Again hold your Volume Up + Power buttons. You should now see the Recovery Mode menu.
Step 5. From the recovery menu click on the update from SD card. Now select update.zip file and hit the Powers button to install the file on your Nexus 5.
Step 6. After the installation, your phone will reboot automatically and the first boot will take some time.
Now your phone is updated with the latest OTA firmware.
Install Android 4.4.1 KOT49E on Nexus 5 [For ROOTED Users]
Step 1. Download Android 4.4.1 KOT49E OTA Update for Nexus 5 on your Desktop.
Step 2. Connect your device to the pc with USB cable and move the file on your devcie SD card.
Step 3. Turn off your device and boo the device in bootloader mode. Turn ON the phone while pressing and holding the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons till you see the Fastboot menu and START on top. Follow the navigation instructions on the screen. Press Volume Up button several times till you see RECOVERY and press Power button to select it.
Step 4. Now you will see the Custom Recovery page on your device. Form the ClockworkMod recovery, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the Power button to select it.
Step 5. Select “choose zip from sdcard”, Now navigate to Android 4.4.1 zip that you moved on your device on Step 2 and select it using the Power button.
Step 6. After the installation completes, go to “+++++Go Back” and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now” from the recovery Screen.
