Update Galaxy Note 2 with Android 4.4 KitKat with CM11 AOSP ROM

If you are the owner of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 and waiting for the android 4.4 Kitkat update. Here is good new of your, now you can enjoy the taste of Kitkat on your device. All credit goes to the XDA developer ThdDude, who released the Android 4.4 CM11 AOSP Rom for Note 2. The ROM is not from the Samsung or not an official ROM. It’s an unoffcial CM11 ROM, built from the open source code released for CM11 by the CyanogenMod developers team. To install this ROM on your note 2 all you have to flash the ROm and Google apps files on your device with the help of CWM recovery. So its important that you need to install the CWM recovery on your Note 2.

As we mention the ROM is not from the Samsung end and this will void the warranty of your device. If you are ready to test the new Kitkat ROM on your device, then read all the below mention instruction very carefully and follow them one by one on your device. One more thing, this ROM is only for the Galaxy Note 2 N7100 model, don;t try this method on any of other Note 2 model or any other devices. So first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings of your Note 2.



Pre-requisites and Requirements

b) Once the backup files are saved on your device or on your desktop, Enable USB debugging mode on your device, read the guide here how to enable USB debugging mode.

c) Make sure that your Note 2 battery is full charge or near about 60-70% battery level.

d) Download the Latest Note 2 drivers on your PC and install it to start the update  process. You need these drivers to connect your device with the computer to follow this guide.

After following the above mention steps follow the below mention guide one by one to update Note 2. All the above mention steps are very important, so do follow all the steps and do exactly what is told.

Install Android 4.4 KitKat with CM11 AOSP ROM on Note 2 N7100

To follow this tutorial You must use CWM recovery on your device. Without CWM recovery you can’t update your device with this CM11 AOSP ROM.

Step 1. Download Android 4.4 KitKat ROM file here and save the zip file on your desktop. Don’t unzip the folder.

Step 2. Now Download the Android 4.4 Gapps file here. You need to flash this file on your device to install all the Google application on your Note 2.

Step 3. Once both the files are downloaded on your PC. Switch off the device and boot it in recovery mode. To do this Press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons.

Step 4. Now you will see the Recovery main screen on your Note 2. First Create a Nandroid Backup from recovery. It’s always recommended to take the backup of your System before flashing new ROM on your device. To take the Backup, go to Backup And Restore » Backup.


Step 5. Now from the Recovery menu first Select Wipe data/Factory reset, then select Yes.

Step 6. Now Select Install zip » Choose zip from sdcard. First select the ROM file that you download on Step 1 and after that Google app package that you downloaded on step 2.

Step 7. Once the Update process is done on your device, go back to recovery main menu and reboot the phone by selecting the reboot system now option.

That’s all. Now you Note 2 is running on the Android 4.4 KitKat ROM.
