Unroot Nexus 5 and Return to Stock Factory Image

If you have the Rooted and Unlocked Nexus 5 and want to Restore/Unroot Nexus 5. I see many users that don’t know how to restore their Nexus 5 to stock. Today, in this guide we’ll show you how you can flash a factory image on your device and lock the boot-loader again. To do this all you need a latest factory image of the nexus 5 model and flash it on your device and after that to lock the bootloader with a command. This guide is only for the Nexus 5 android smartphone. Don’t try this method on any of other Android devices, It may hard brick your device. So, first confirm your phone model number in your android phone settings. To do this Go the Settings page of your device and check out the “About Device” option.

You need these drivers to connect your device with the computer to follow this guide. Without these USB drivers you can’t connect your device to the PC, first download and install these drivers on your system.


Now you need to enable USB debugging mode. Without enabling USB debugging mode on your device you can’t start the root, Custom ROM or Unlock process.



If your device switched off during this process, it could damage or brick the device. Make sure that your Android battery is full charge or near about 50-70% battery level.

After following the above mention steps follow the below mention guide one by one to proceed with the tutorial. All the above mention steps are very important, so do follow all the steps and do exactly what is told.


First Download the newest factory images to your PC And save the folder on your desktop. Download Link

NOTE:- Below mention guide is for These instructions are for the 4.4.2 (KOT49H) files. If you stumble upon this later, be sure to adjust the file-names depending on the factory images you download.

After Downloading the Factory Image, Setup the Android ADB and Fastboot drivers on your desktop.

Method 1

Step 1. Extract the Nexus 5 Factory Image folder on your C:/drive AndroidADB folder (The Folder that You created at the time of Android ADB and Fastboot drivers Setup) and you will see these files on the Factory Image folder(Move all these files on Android ADB folder). See the screenshot below:-

Step 2. Power off your phone.

Step 3. Now boot the device in Fastboot mode, To do this press and hold Power Button + Volume Down at the same time.

Step 4. Connect your phone to your PC through your USB cable.

Step 5. Run the flash-all.bat script (for Windows) or flash-all.sh(for MAC and LINUX) in the folder where you extracted the factory images.

Step 6. Wait for everything to flash. After that Select select “Recovery” using the volume buttons.

Step 7. When a small Android appears, press Power Button + Volume UP.

Step 8. Select “Wipe data/factory data reset”

Step 9. Reboot. Now your device is unrooted and ruining on Android 4.2.2 Stock Firmware.

Method 2

Step 1. Extract the Nexus 5 Factory Image folder and you would find a zip file inside (image-hammerhead-kot49h.zip) . Unzip it too and move all those file on your AndroidADB folder (The Folder that You created at the time of Android ADB and Fastboot drivers Setup). Below is the screenshot of the file which you have to move on the Android ADB folder.

Step 2. Now boot the device in Fastboot mode, To do this press and hold Power Button + Volume Down at the same time.

Step 3. Connect your phone to your PC through your USB cable.

Step 4. Open the Folder in which you moved the file (Step 1). And launch a command window on the folder. You can do this by pressing the Shift+Right-click on the mouse at an empty space from within the folder.

Step 5. Type the following commands, allowing each to finish before moving onto the next: (*If using a Mac, be sure to add ./ in front of all commands (ex: ./fastboot reboot-bootloader))

After flashing all these files on your Nexus 5, you phone will be on 100% stock firmware.

If you want to lock the bootloader of you nexus 5, then run the following command:

fastboot oem lock

If you want to keep your bootloader unlocked, simply tap the Power button from the START screen of nexus 5.
