CHECK PHONE MODEL

This guide is only for the Nexus 5X android smartphone. Don’t try this method on any of other Android devices, It may hard brick your device. So, first confirm your phone model number in your android phone settings. To do this Go the Settings page of your device and check out the “About Device” option.

PRE-REQUISITES AND REQUIREMENTS

Before following the below Mention guide, It’s always recommended to follow our pre-requisites and requirement to stay safe.

1. BACKUP YOUR ANDROID DATA

Do take the Full Backup of your Android Apps, SMS, Contacts, Call Logs, Bookmarks. This one is one of the most important step that you have to follow, as we don’t want anyone losing their personal data or apps. For help on Backup and Restore check out the below mention guides.

2. INSTALL NEXUS 5X DRIVERS

First you need to Setup ADB and Fastboot, USB Drivers on windows PC. This will help you to sendbasic linux commands, and a variety Android specific commands from PC to connected Android devices.

3. ENABLE USB DEBUGGING MODE

Now you need to enable USB debugging mode. Without enabling USB debugging mode on your device you can’t start the root, Custom ROM or Unlock process.

4. CHARGE YOUR ANDROID

If your device switched off during this process, it could damage or brick the device. Make sure that your Android battery is full charge or near about 50-70% battery level.

After following the above mention steps follow the below mention guide one by one to proceed with the tutorial. All the above mention steps are very important, so do follow all the steps and do exactly what is told.

ROOT NEXUS 5X, INSTALL CUSTOM RECOVERY & UNLOCK BOOTLOADER

Step 1. First you have to unlock the bootloader of your phone and this process will delete al your data form the phone. So do take the full backup of your phone.

Step 2. And install the USB, ADB file from the above mention links.

Step 3. Now Go to Settings > Developer Options, enable USB Debugging and click on Enable OEM Unlock.

Step 4. Power off your device and keep it unplugged from your PC

Step 5. Now boot your phone in fastboot/bootloader mode. To do this press the volume down and power buttons to boot into fastboot mode.

Step 6. Now open the ADB folder from your Windows C Drive (C:/ADB). The same folder that you created while installing the USB drivers from the above mention steps(SETUP ADB & FASTBOOT DRIVERS ON PC).

Step 7. Connect your phone to the PC with USB cable and open command prompt window in ADB folder. (While Holding Shift button from the keyboard, Right-click on an empty space of the ADB folder and select “Open command window here” option to launch a command prompt window.)

Step 8. Test whether fastboot is working alright or not. Enter this command:-

fastboot devices

Once the command is entered, you will see a serial no. with fastboot written after it. If you don’t get fastboot written on the cmd window, then it means you need to reinstall adb and fastboot drivers, or change restart PC, or use original USB cable.

Step 9. Once you’ve confirmed your fastboot connection, enter the following command to unlock the bootloader.

fastboot oem unlock

Step 10. Now you should see a message asking you to confirm this action. Use the volume keys to scroll and the power key to confirm.

Step 11. Once the process is done, issue the following command:-

fastboot reboot

Step 12. Now you can disconnect from your PC once the process completes.

Step 13. Now the Bootloader is unlocked and next step is to install the custom Recovery and get the Root access.

Step 14. Download SuperSU root file on your Nexus 6P here. And move the zip file on your phone internal memory.

Step 15. Download the Custom recovery and rename the file to recovery.img

Step 16. Move the recovery.img file to the ADB folder (The same folder that you created while installing the USB drivers from the above mention steps(SETUP ADB & FASTBOOT DRIVERS ON PC).

Step 17. Go to Settings > Developer Options and enable USB Debugging.

Step 18. Turn the phone off. Press the power and volume down buttons to boot into fastboot mode.

Step 19. Connect the phone to the PC with USB cable and open the command window in ADB folder. (While Holding Shift button from the keyboard, Right-click on an empty space of the ADB folder and select “Open command window here” option to launch a command prompt window.)

Step 20. Now flash the custom recovery. Use the following command for that.

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Step 21. Now boot your phone in recovery mode. To flash the SUperSu zip file that you saved on your phone in Step 14. To do this enter this command:-

fastboot boot recovery.img

Step 22. Once you are in the recovery mode, tap Install and navigate to the SuperSU file in your device’s storage and select it.

Step 23. Once the installation is complete, reboot to system.

Now you will have root access on your Nexus 5X.
