Root HTC One Google Play Edition, Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP

In our previous guides we covered lots of article to root HTC devices, now we are back again with the new guide for the HTC One Google Play Edition users. This guide is meant only for HTC One Google Play Edition, do not attempt to try this on any other android device. In this tutorial we will show you how to unlock the bootlaoder of the device, how to install the TWRP recovery and after that how to use Supersu to root the HTC One Google Play Edition. Once you rooted your phone, you can enjoy lots of benefits of rooting like install ROMS, Install Rooted apps, Take full backup of your device etc.

Root HTC One Google Play Edition


This guide is only for the HTC One Google Play Edition android smartphone. Don’t try this method on any of other Android devices, It may hard brick your device. So, first confirm your phone model number in your android phone settings. To do this Go the Settings page of your device and check out the “About Device” option.


Before following the below Mention guide, It’s always recommended to follow our pre-requisites and requirement to stay safe.


Do take the Full Backup of your Android Apps, SMS, Contacts, Call Logs, Bookmarks. This one is one of the most important step that you have to follow, as we don’t want anyone losing their personal data or apps. For help on Backup and Restore check out the below mention guides.


You need these drivers to connect your device with the computer to follow this guide. Without these USB drivers you can’t connect your device to the PC, first download and install these drivers on your system.


Now you need to enable USB debugging mode. Without enabling USB debugging mode on your device you can’t start the root, Custom ROM or Unlock process.



If your device switched off during this process, it could damage or brick the device. Make sure that your Android battery is full charge or near about 50-70% battery level.

After following the above mention steps follow the below mention guide one by one to proceed with the tutorial. All the above mention steps are very important, so do follow all the steps and do exactly what is told.


First and most important part is unlock the bootloader of the phone. The method is simple and take only 2 minutes by using fastboot commands.

Step 1. Setup the Android ADB and Fastboot drivers on your desktop.

Step 2. Now connect you device to the computer, open a command prompt window and enter the following command

adb reboot bootloader

Reboot Bootloader

Step 3. Now you phone will reboot in bootloader mode, again go to the command prompt windows and enter the following command to unlock the bootloader.

fastboot oem unlock

Step 4. Now you will see a warning message on your phone, To unlock your phone use the Volume keys to highlight Yes and select it using the Power key.

That’s it, now the bootloader is unlocked on your phone. Next step is to install the TWRP Recovery.


Step 1. Download the latest TWRP recovery file here and save it on your desktop.

Step 2. Now copy the recovery File on the SDK-tools folder or AndroidADB on your computer C:/ Drive.

Step 3. Connect your device to the PC via USB cable and enter the following command:

adb reboot bootloader

Reboot Bootloader

Step 4. Once the device is in fastboot mode, enter the following command in command prompt window.

fastboot flash recovery

Example:- fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-

Install TWRP recovery

Step 5. Once the recovery process is completed on your device, enter the following command

fastboot reboot

Now recovery is installed on your HTC One Google Play Edition


Step 1. Download the latest SuperSU flashable package here

Step 2. Connect your phone to the PC with USB cable and move the downloaded file on your device.

Step 3. Disconnect the phone from PC and reboot in recovery mode. To do this press Volume down and power button together until you see the bootloader screen. Use the volume up and down buttons to highlight RECOVERY and select it using the power button. The device will boot itself into TWRP recovery.

Step 4. Tap on Install and select the file.

Step 5. Once the flashing process is done, tap on Reboot and then on System to reboot your device.

That’s it. Now your device is rooted, unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed.
