Guide to Root and Install TWRP Recovery On LG G2 – VZW, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile

Thanks to the XDA memebers who released an easy root and Install TWRP Recovery method for LG G2 Smartphone. KG G2 is the latest smartphone from the LG electronics with some great features and specifications. LG G2 sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS LCD display, 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera and comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. If you recently bought the new G2 smartphone and want to root and install recovery on your phone to enjoy some beautiful custom ROMs and tweaks on your device, then here is complete guide which allows you to root and install recovery.

The method is tested by lots of the XDA members and working fine without any problem. This method will works on most of the LG G2 variants like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint,T-Mobile, Bell & Rogers. To complete this process on your device you need a ADB drivers. Follow all the instruction very carefully and don’t skip any of the below mention steps and do not try this method on any other model of the device.

Pre-requisites and Requirements

a) Before following the guide do take the Full Backup of your Android Apps, SMS, Contacts, Call Logs, Bookmarks. Looking for more ways to get the Backup your android device click here. b) Once the backup files are saved on your device or on your desktop, Enable USB debugging mode on your device, read the guide here how to enable USB debugging mode.

c) Make sure that your  LG G2 is full charge or near about 60-70% battery level.

d) Download the Latest LG G2 USB drivers on your PC and install it to start the root process. You need these drivers to connect your device with the computer to follow this guide.

After following the above mention steps follow the below mention guide one by one. All the above mention steps are very important, so do follow all the steps and do exactly what is told.

How to Root LG G2 Android Phone

Currently the following phones are supported by this root package:

AT&T G2 (D800) – D80010d
Verizon G2 (VS980) – VS98010B (Shipping ROM)
Verizon G2 (VS980) – VS98011A (OTA)
T-Mobile G2 (Shipping ROM)
KT F320k (Shipping ROM)
Rogers D803 (Shipping ROM)
Bell D803 (Shipping ROM)
Telus D803 (Shipping ROM)
OPEN D802 (Shipping ROM)

Step 1. Download the Root package for LG G2 here and extract the folder on your desktop.

Step 2. Now go to Settings> PC Settings and select the proper mode to connect you mobile phone with the PC (For Verizon, use Ethernet mode on the PC settings menu).

Step 3. Connect you phone to the computer with USB cable.

Step 4. Once the phone is connected, Open the iroot folder from the desktop and run the root.bat file. At this point your android smartphone, will ask you to Disconnect USB and Disable USB Debugging, then again enable it and connect your LG G2 to PC. See the screenshot below:-

Step 5. Press any to continue the root process on your phone, this will run the root process on your device and will take some time to finish and SuperSU will be pushed to your device.

That’s it, Now your device is rooted and you are ready to install the TWRP Recovery.

How to Install TWRP Recovery on LG G2 Smartphone

Step 1. Download the appropriate image file for your device from the below link:-

Step 2. To flash these image files on your device you have to setup the ADB drivers on your PC, read How to setup ADB here or do a Google search.

Step 3. Download loki-master.zip file and extract it on your computer.

Step 4. Now move the image file that you downloaded on step 1 to ADB folder.

Step 5. Now open the Loki folder that you downloaded on Step 3 and copy the “loki_flash” file to the ADB folder.

Step 6. After copying both the file son ADB folder, connect your device to the computer.

Step 7. Run the following command. (Note: change the “xxx” with the image file that you’ve downloaded)

adb push loki_flash /data/local/tmp/loki_flash
adb push xxx /data/local/tmp/xxx
adb shell

If you don’t see a # prompt, type su to gain root access.

Step 8. To reboot your device in TWRP, use the following (once again replace the xxx with recovery image file):

cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 777 loki_flash
./loki_flash recovery /data/local/tmp/xxx
exit
adb reboot recovery
