Google Nexus 7 WiFi Android 4.4 KRT16O KitKat Official Update – Installation Guide

Android 4.4 KRT16O KitKat Official Update is now available for the Google Nexus 7 WiFi. If you are the owner of the Nexus 7, then you can update you device via OTA method. Currently the update is available in some countries, and very soon the update should be coming to your Nexus 7. If you can’t wait for the update and want to install the latest official android kitkat on your device manually. Then here is the tutorial which you can follow on your tablet to install the new update. The new update comes with lots of new features which you will enjoy on your tablet. The below mention tutorial is only for the Nexus 7 Wifi users, This is just an OTA update, not a full firmware — so your tablet needs to be on Android 4.3 JWR66Y already before applying this OTA update. The guide is available for both rooted and no-rooted users.

Before following this guide do check the model and firmware version of your tablet. You should be on Android 4.3 JWR66Y, If not, then don’t follow this guide, otherwise you will brick your device. Go to Settings > About tablet to check. And don’t forget to take the full backup of your tablet before proceeding this guide.

b) Once the backup files are saved on your device or on your desktop, Enable USB debugging mode on your device, read the guide here how to enable USB debugging mode.

c) Make sure that your Nexus 7 WiFi battery is full charge or near about 60-70% battery level.

d) Download the Latest Nexus 7 WiFi drivers on your PC and install it to start the update  process. You need these drivers to connect your device with the computer to follow this guide.

Install Android 4.4 KRT16O OTA Update on Nexus 7 [For Non-ROOTED]

Step 1. Download Android 4.4 for Nexus 7 on your PC and save the zip file on your desktop. Rename it to update.zip.

Step 2. Connect your tablet to the PC via USB cable and move the downloaded zip file on your device SD card.

Step 3. Switch off you tablet and boot in Bootloader Mode. To do this Turn ON the tablet while pressing and holding the Volume Up + Power buttons till you see the Fastboot menu and START on top.

Step 4. Follow the navigation instructions on the screen. Press Volume Up button several times till you see RECOVERY and press Power button to select it.

Step 5. Now you will see the Yellow exclamation mark on your screen. This time again hold your Volume Up + Power buttons. You should now see the Recovery Mode menu.

Step 6. From the recovery main menu select the update from SD card. From here select he update.zip file (File that you renamed on Step 1). Now the installation process will start on your device and you will see the update process on your tablet screen.

Step 7. Once the update process is finished, your device will reboot automatically and the first reboot will take some time.

That’s it! Now your Nexus 7 is running on the official Android 4.4 KRT16O KitKat.

Guide to Install Android 4.4 KRT16O Official OTA Update on Nexus 7 [For ROOTED]

This guide is for Nexus 7 2012 (WiFi) rooted users and am not sure this guide will work on any other Nexus 7 variants. Make sure you have ClockworkMod custom recovery installed on your Nexus 7. You should be on Android 4.3 JWR66Y

Step 1. Download Android 4.4 KRT16O OTA Update for Nexus 7 on your PC, and save the file on your desktop.

Step 2. Connect your tablet to the PC via USB cable and move the downloaded zip file on your device SD card.

Step 3. Turn off your Nexus 7 and Now go to Bootloader mode, To do this Turn ON the tablet while pressing and holding the Volume Up + Power buttons till you see the Fastboot menu and START on top.

Step 4. Follow the navigation instructions on the screen. Press Volume Up button several times till you see RECOVERY and press Power button to select it.

Step 5. Now you are the Recovery main screen, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the power button to select it.

Step 6. From here select the Android 4.4 update zip file that you moved on your device on step 2.

NOTE (Optional): You might have to turn OFF signature verification from the “toggle signature verification” option.

Step 7. Press the power button to select the Android 4.4 zip file and installation process will start on your Nexus 7.

Step 8. Once the installation is finished, go back to the recovery main menu and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now”.

That’s it! Your Nexus 7 should have the official Android 4.4 KRT16O KitKat software update.
